Retired Baltimore Nurse Stunned by $100,000 Scratch-off Win

When out with her son last week, an 88-year-old Baltimore woman stopped by a gas station to purchase a scratch-off simply because it felt like the right time to do so. That visit and that specific purchase of a WILLY WONKA GOLDEN TICKET™ made her the game’s fourth $100,000 top prize winner! The retired nurse is equal parts stunned and grateful.

Her winning moment came at the 28thStreet Citgo in Baltimore. “I looked at the ticket for a few moments and then handed it to my son,” the winner told Maryland Lottery officials. “I wanted him to tell me that I wasn’t seeing things. He didn’t believe it either so he asked the clerk to check it.” The employee did so and confirmed the top-prize win.

The west Baltimore mother of four and grandmother sees her Lottery luck as a blessing. “That whole day, and every day since, I just didn’t know what to do,” said the scratch-off fan. She plays instant tickets several times a week but never with results like this! “I don’t mean the Lottery paperwork stuff, my son nailed down all of that for me. But when I think about all of that money, I’m just bewildered.”

Paying bills and putting smiles on her grandkids’ faces lead her list of intentions for her winnings. Also in the money is her lucky Baltimore City retailer. The gas station located at 2725 Sisson Street earns a bonus of $1,000 for selling a top-prize scratch-off of $100,000.

There are four more $100,000 top prizes in the $10 game, which went on sale in April. The game carries a second-chance contest that can turn players into billionaires. They can enter non-winning WILLY WONKA GOLDEN TICKET™ scratch-offs into the BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE™ for a chance to win a trip to Las Vegas, where they can try to win up to $1 billion. The next entry deadline is Sept. 10.
