Silver Spring Chef Whips Up a Winning Lottery Dish

$100 Grand scratch-off game delivers top-prize win

A visit to a grocery store this past Saturday put a Montgomery County woman in the right place at the right time to find her largest-ever Maryland Lottery win. The $100 Grandscratch-off that had treated her well in the past came through again with a $100,000 top-prize win.

“I was walking to my car and passed a liquor store that sold Lottery tickets,” said the 39-year-old. “I had a few bucks left after the groceries so I decided to get a ticket.” The “Scratch Queen” plays once or twice a week and always scratches off her instant tickets at home.

“I picked out the $100 Grand because it keeps paying off for me,” said the Silver Spring resident. “I think I’ve won every time I’ve bought one.”

It took our lucky chef about 20 minutes to believe that the $100,000 winning scratch-off she held in her hands was real. “I didn’t believe it. And, when I finally started to believe it, I immediately went back to not believing. It just couldn’t be true.”

Phone calls to her mother and sister spread the excitement to the whole family. Their first reaction, though, was worry. “When she told me to sit down,” the mom admitted, “I thought to myself, ‘Who died?’ It was the sound of her voice. I knew it was something big.”

“Scratch Queen” plans to erase some debt with her prize and begin a search for a new home.  “What a blessing this is,” she said. “It’s a big weight off of my shoulders.”

This $10 game still has one more unclaimed $100,000 top prize and thousands of others ranging from $10 to $20,000. Old World Favorites located at 3854 International Drive in Silver Spring played the middleman in this happy transaction. For selling a top-prize scratch-off in the game, the Montgomery County retailer earns a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.
