Retired salesman to share winnings with family
A Taneytown resident said it took two sets of eyes to examine his $50,000 Cash scratch-off to make sure he won the game’s $50,000 top prize. Finally, he and his daughter confirmed his lucky win.
“I had to look at it three to four times to make sure it was real,” he said. The retired salesman, his wife and one of his two daughters visited Maryland Lottery headquarters on Friday to claim his prize. “We are very blessed,” said his wife.
The lucky winner said he is enjoying retirement, as he likes to spend time with his family and shoots pool for a hobby. The 81-year-old said he planned to give most of his winnings to his two adult daughters and their families.
“I don’t know if there will be anything left after that,” he said, jokingly.
The lucky player purchased the winning instant ticket at Liquor Barn, which is located at 520 East Baltimore Street in Taneytown. The Carroll County retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off. The bonus is equal to 1% of the prize.
The $50,000 Cash game went on sale in December with 160 top prizes. This is the 39th top-prize winner on the $20 game. In addition, there are more than 875,000 other unclaimed prizes ranging from $20 to $5,000.
