Sparrows Point woman wins with $100,000 Crossword scratch-off
A Baltimore County nurse is thankful for her chance encounter with Lottery luck, which she says will help reverse the pandemic’s adverse financial impact on her family. An unexpected gift and a pair of winning scratch-offs led to her top-prize win on a $100,000 Crossword 4th Edition scratch-off. The lucky $100,000 winner claimed her six-figure payout just last week.
Like many medical professionals, the local nurse experienced a topsy-turvy time during the pandemic. The Sparrows Point resident was soon caring for COVID-19 patients. While it was rewarding work, the 35-year-old said the economic impact of the pandemic affected her family. Her workload expanded and her husband’s shrank before he was eventually laid off.
“It was a complete turnaround from where we were before,” she said. “We were managing the bills with credit, but the pressure was building.”
Although crossword scratch-offs are her favorite Lottery game, the winner said funds were tight. She avoided enjoying what she saw as an indulgence until a fellow healthcare worker gave her an unexpected gift. “I got a Starbucks gift card and I used the occasion to get a nice cup of coffee and a scratch-off,” she said.
That lone instant ticket would win, providing funds for her later purchase of the lucky $100,000 Crossword 4th Edition scratch-off. She pocketed the $10 game without playing it, only to rediscover it nearly a month later while at home. The nurse scratched off the instant ticket and, as the number of words she revealed grew, was soon at a loss for words.
“I couldn’t speak. After I was done doubting the reality of what I was seeing, I was just crying,” she said.
Winning the game’s $100,000 top prize will allow her family to pay off credit cards, debt and pay taxes. “This means everything. We get to stay in our house and get back to that good place,” she explained.
Our lucky lady bought her winning scratch-off at 7-Eleven #38196 located at 5230 North Point Boulevard in Sparrows Point. For selling a top-prize winning scratch-off, the Baltimore County retailer earned a $1,000 bonus.
The $100,000 Crossword scratch-off launched in August, offering players a chance to win prizes from $10 to $100,000. With this win, the scratch-off has two $100,000 top prizes remaining along with four unclaimed $10,000 prizes.
