Finds prize waiting in holiday stocking
Finding Maryland Lottery Ravens scratch-offs tucked in their holiday stockings is a holiday tradition for a Harford County family, and this year they had more than just the fun of playing the games to celebrate. On the day after Christmas, the parents of two young boys found a $100,000 top-prize winner among the scratch-offs in the adults’ stockings.
The couple claimed the prize on Jan. 4 after the holiday festivities had turned into memories. The husband, who is an avid Ravens fan, said he is all in when it comes to Ravens-themed scratch-offs.
“I’ve been playing this game for about 15 years, since the beginning,” he said after claiming the top prize on the $5 Ravens X5 ticket.
On the day after Christmas, while their sons were playing, the couple decided to check the instant tickets that were still in their stockings.
“My wife and I were kind of in shock,” he said of their reaction to finding the big win. They plan to save the funds to help pay future college tuition bills for their children.
Sharing in their good luck is J Convenience at 8765 Satyr Hill Road in Parkville, where the instant ticket was purchased. The Baltimore County store scores a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off of $100,000.
The Ravens X5 game went on sale in August with seven prizes at the $100,000 level. There are five unclaimed top prizes remaining along with five $10,000 prizes and others ranging from $5 to $1,000.
