‘That Was A Good Morning,’ Says Silver Spring Winner of $50,000

A day of running errands gets a lot brighter with Maryland Lottery scratch-off win

An enthusiastic Maryland Lottery player from Silver Spring was happy to claim a $50,000 prize on the $20 scratch-off game $50,000 Cash, but plans to continue playing in hopes of a life changing win.

The player was running errands on the day of his win, stopping at a laundromat and the Safeway grocery store #4817 at 116 University Boulevard West in Silver Spring. It was at the Safeway where he purchased four tickets and started scratching them while waiting in line to wrap up his errands.

As he was scratching, he checked the winning numbers at the top of the play area: 43, 26, 32, 02 and 48. Then he started checking the rest of the ticket. The first number in the last row was 43, matching one of his winners, so he scratched to reveal the prize amount under the number: $50,000.

“That was a good morning!” the winner declared while claiming his prize July 7 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

He plans to give money from the win to his mother, father and daughter to help out with a variety of expenses (including tuition for the daughter). He anticipates that will about tap him out until his next win.

The Safeway store picks up a bonus of $500, equal to 1% of the prize.

The $50,000 Cash instant ticket went on sale in December 2022 with 160 top prizes. There are still 102 top prizes remaining along with other unclaimed prizes ranging in value from $20 to $5,000.
