Using Personal Sets of Numbers Gives Couple a $100,000 Powerball Prize

A $100,000 Powerball prize will make the transition to retirement much easier, say the winning Baltimore couple.

Biggest win ever for Baltimore ‘Childhood Sweethearts’

A pair of Maryland Lottery fans visited headquarters on Thursday with a Powerball ticket that inserted a significant amount of craziness into their lives. It’s the very best kind of craziness, the Baltimore couple said, explaining that their $100,000 Powerball win on Oct. 2 makes this week one they will never forget.

Calling themselves “Childhood Sweethearts,” the anonymous couple created their lucky Powerball combination using “our birthdays, birth months and the addresses where we lived when we first started dating.” Married more than 50 years, “Childhood Sweethearts” have played Lottery games together for as long as they can remember. “We’ve won plenty of times over the years, but never anything like this.”

Checking their $15 ticket late Monday night, they quickly noticed several familiar numbers. “We thought at first that we’d won $50,000. It was so exciting!” they said. Upon checking the ticket with their mobile Maryland Lottery App, the two were stunned. They had added the Power Play multiplier option to the ticket and it doubled the prize to $100,000. “We couldn’t believe it. We were both crying.”

Nearing retirement, the “Childhood Sweethearts” said that their third-tier Powerball win makes the upcoming transition much more stress free. “What a wonderful relief this is!”

Crestmount Wine & Spirits in Jessup served up this $100,000 winner. The happy couple plan to return there just in case there’s still some good luck floating around. “We have our eyes on that billion-dollar Powerball jackpot,” they said.

The estimated jackpot annuity for the Saturday Oct. 7 drawing is $1.4 billion with an estimated cash option of $643.7 million. If you’re of like mind, look for their lucky Lottery retailer at 7968 Washington Boulevard in Jessup.
