Ocean City Vending Attendant Collects Lots of Coin with 100X The Cash Scratch-Off

Claims first $1 million prize on new $20 scratch-off

An amusement vending machine attendant in Ocean City is a millionaire after hooking a huge prize from a Maryland Lottery scratch-off. The Millsboro, Delaware man scooped up the first $1 million top prize on the 100X The Cash instant ticket, which he purchased from a local 7-Eleven convenience store.

The 36-year-old winner, calling himself “Spare Change,” is among the many Ocean City resort workers who labor all year at the beachside town. As a vending attendant, he makes sure the city’s amusement machines are ready for fun.

“Almost every hotel has a game room and there’s the bars, restaurants and boardwalk, too,” said the new millionaire. “If there’s a crane machine, Golden Tee machine, a foosball table, air hockey or pool table, it’s my job to visit them regularly, picking up the coins and restocking the machines.”

“Spare Change” was about to begin his daily route when he stopped at 7-Eleven #23366 to pick up his usual Pick 3 and Pick 4 tickets and a scratch-off. While scratching off his instant ticket, he noticed a customer who left money in the Lottery machine.

“Spare Change” decided to go after the player to take them the money but first, quickly, bought one more scratch-off with his own spare change. He picked out a 100X The Cash instant ticket and returned the money to the player before she left the store. When “Spare Change” scanned the scratch-off’s prize check area, he saw a strange message telling him to take the ticket to the Lottery.

He then took the scratch-off to his car to investigate the cryptic message by playing the scratch-off. “Spare Change” uncovered the winning numbers on the game and the prizes. When he revealed the six-figure top prize, he went into shock. “I started shaking. My nerves were rattled and I had trouble thinking straight for the rest of the work day,” he said.

The winner elected to receive his $1 million prize as an annuity. “This will keep me from spending it all quickly and it’s like having an extra income,” he said.

This is the first top prize discovered on the 100X The Cash scratch-off. The $20 game, which launched in November, now has five $1 million top prizes remaining along with seven $50,000 prizes and eight $10,000 prizes. If you don’t win, you can still win up to $50,000 through the second-chance promotion. Get details here.

“Spare Change” found his lucky scratch-off at 7-Eleven #23366 located at 5809 Coastal Highway in Ocean City. For selling the $1 million top-prize winning scratch-off, the lucky Worcester County store earned a $1,000 retailer bonus from the Lottery.
