Roll With It – Former Automotive Worker Rolls Luck to a $50,000 Top-prize

A retired automotive worker calling himself “Old Skool” claimed a top prize on the $50,000 cash scratch-off.

A series of lucky tickets leads to top prize on $50,000 Cash scratch-off.

A Berlin man found himself feeling particularly lucky this week, and he decided to lean into that luck, leading to a $50,000 top prize on the $50,000 Cash scratch-off.

The 65-year-old retiree calling himself ‘Old Skool’ told Lottery officials that a morning visit to cash three winning tickets snowballed into a landslide of luck. After cashing three $10 winning scratch-offs, he purchased two $50,000 Cash scratch-offs, hopeful that his luck would continue.

“When you’re on a roll, you’re on a roll and you’ve just got to roll with it,” said the winner.

And his luck did continue. The first ticket he scratched won $30 and the second revealed a $50,000 top prize. He bought a few more tickets using his $30 prize, winning $100 more. When he discovered the $50,000 top prize he said it was quite a surprise.

“I scanned it at the counter scanner and when I saw the $50,000 prize I was all shook up,” said the winner.

He kept news of the win quiet, only telling a few people. After double-checking the result with the Lottery’s mobile app, he rushed home to share the news with his wife and later returned to the store to thank the clerk for selling him the ticket.

“I’ve had some luck here and there, but winning something like this blew me out of the water,” said the winner.

The retiree worked for 45 years in the automotive industry. He said the scratch-off win is like getting an unexpected salary. He added that the prize money would be helpful for a handful of expenses now that he is on a fixed income.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Shore Stop convenience store located at 11121 Racetrack Road in Berlin. The store will earn a $500 retailer bonus for selling the ticket.

The $50,000 Cash scratch-off hit Lottery retailers starting in December, launching with thousands of prizes from $20 to $5,000 and 160 top-prizes of $50,000. With this top-prize win, 95 $50,000 prizes remain.
