Players across the state won nearly $29.9 million during week ending July 2
While no one hit the Powerball jackpot in the July 1 drawing, pushing the top prize well beyond half a billion dollars, a player in Salisbury won $50,000 on Saturday. The Powerball jackpot stands at an estimated annuity of $522 million for the July 3 drawing, with an estimated cash option of $269.6 million.
Not since April 19, when a player in Ohio won a jackpot with an annuity value of $252.6 million has anyone matched all five numbers plus the Powerball for a jackpot win. After that drawing, the jackpot reset to $20 million, but it has been growing steadily ever since.
While the big focus is always on the jackpot, the $50,000 Salisbury prize is a reminder that Powerball has a total of nine prize tiers. Matching all five white balls without the red Powerball is good for a $1 million prize, and matching four of the five white balls plus the Powerball is good for $50,000, so it’s always worth checking those tickets, even if there’s no jackpot winner.
Powerball drawings are conducted at 10:59 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
While the Powerball jackpot kept growing in the last week, Maryland Lottery players continued winning big on other games, including three people who claimed $100,000 prizes on scratch-off tickets purchased in Berwyn Heights, Rawlings and Crownsville. And, in addition to the $50,000 Powerball win in Salisbury, three other players picked up $50,000 prizes in Elkton, Havre de Grace and Rosedale.
In all, 34 tickets worth $10,000 or more were sold or redeemed in the seven days ending July 3 and the Lottery paid nearly $29.9 million in prizes during that span.
Winners of prizes larger than $25,000 must redeem their tickets at the Maryland Lottery Claims Center in Baltimore, which is open by appointment only. Prizes of up to $5,000 can be claimed at any of more than 400 Expanded Cashing Authority Program (XCAP) locations.
