Lucky Daughter Gets $50,000 Father’s Day Lottery Win

Delaware woman wins top prize on Gold X20 scratch-off

A 50-year-old Lottery player from Delaware switched up her routine because of the Father’s Day holiday and won $50,000 on the $5 Gold X20 scratch-off game. The grateful daughter said she believes her deceased father sent her a gift on the day fathers are celebrated.

The big winner said she and her parents would play scratch-offs together for years. And, when her father passed away a couple of years ago, she and her mother continued to play together. They prefer $5 scratch-off games and usually go out on Saturdays to play. But, since it was Father’s Day on June 18, they decided to play on that Sunday in memory of her dad.

The Newark, Delaware residents visited a Royal Farms in Elkton, Maryland because it’s close to home and they prefer Maryland Lottery scratch-offs for the variety of games and number of prizes. On Father’s Day, they bought several $5 instant tickets, including some Gold X20 scratch-offs and played them at home. As the lucky player went through her games, she came to the Gold X20 ticket and scratched off a 20X symbol. As she continued to scratch, she kept revealing matched numbers. She was stunned when she began to reveal the prizes underneath her matches.

“I first saw a $5,000 prize and I was like, ‘Holy Moly,’” she said, smiling. “But, I kept scratching and matching and the under the 20X symbol was $1,000.” All of the prizes added up to $50,000!

The married stepmom who works as a patient coordinator at a local medical center said she believes her dad sent the two of them some Lottery luck on Father’s Day.

“He enjoyed playing the games, but seeing us happy and winning on the scratch-offs gave him even more joy,” said the loving daughter. “He would get so excited for us.”

The lucky lady was accompanied by her husband to claim the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. He shared that when she told him about the win, he thought it was fake.

“It took about ten minutes for it register,” said the husband.

The big winner told Lottery officials that she planned to share some of the winnings with her mother and will use the rest for home improvements and a vacation. If there’s anything left, she said, she’ll save it.

The Royal Farms #101 is also celebrating. The Cecil County business, located at 1199 E. Pulaski Highway in Elkton, will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for its role selling a top-prize winning scratch-off worth $50,000.

The Gold X20 instant ticket went on sale in January. There are still three $50,000 top prizes remaining along with three $5,000 prizes and many other unclaimed prizes ranging from $5 to $1,000.
