Rockville Man Uses Work Break to Claim $30,000 Lottery Prize

Finds first of seven Diamond Bingo 4th Edition top prizes

A Montgomery County resident won $30,000 playing a Maryland Lottery scratch-off, which was enough to make him happy, but not enough to keep him from wanting to go back to work.

After claiming the prize Nov. 2 at Maryland Lottery headquarters, the Rockville man said he was returning to work. He planned to save his top prize on the $3 Diamond Bingo game. An avid scratch-off player, the 55-year-old said the $30,000 prize is his new personal record. His previous top prizes were in the $50 to $100 range.

While instant tickets are his favorites, he also plays what he calls the “big Lottery,” which are multistate jackpot games like Mega Millions and Powerball. Looking ahead, the lucky man plans to keep on playing and keep on working.

He found his winning scratch-off at Dong Phuong Market at 8545 Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring. For selling a $30,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, the Montgomery County retailer earns a $300 bonus from the Lottery.
